Data Protection Officer (part time or full time)
We are looking for a forward-thinking and hands-on Data Protection Officer to ensure that we are compliant, transparent, fair and customer-centric with how we use the data we have about our customers.

We’ve recently launched our current account which means that all of our customers are trusting us to protect large amounts of their personal data. We will be completely transparent about how we treat this data and want our community to be involved in these decisions: this is where you come in.
You’ll be responsible for defining how Monzo uses customer data. You’ll help apply the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and work with various teams to ensure Monzo are protecting data appropriately, following the spirit and letter of the GDPR. We want you to ensure our customers are kept up to date with how we use their data, from publishing a Data Charter, interacting with our community and being the data champion for Monzo.
We operate a “three lines of defence” model of risk management at Monzo: you’ll be sitting in the second line as part of our Risk and Compliance team, currently seven person strong. You will report directly to our Chief Risk Officer, and will work with teams across the company, from Marketing to Partnerships to Customer Operations and more. Your mission is to build a positive data protection culture, making it part of every Monzonaut’s day to day work.
What you’ll be doing:
-Defining and implementing the strategy for how Monzo uses data, including presenting proposals to senior executives.
-Supporting teams across the company to ensure we give due attention to data protection during design and development.
-Managing any potential or actual data breaches, including ensuring the Information Commissioner’s Office is informed if required.
-Championing data protection, giving advice and guidance across the company to make sure requirements are met and impacts are assessed.

Previous experience working in financial services (for example insurance, banking, consultancy) would be an advantage, but not a requirement.
This role is a part-time position for someone looking to do around 20 hours a week, and we’re flexible as to how these are distributed over the week. This may over time become a full-time role or job share.
The full-time equivalent salary for this role is around £60,000 plus stock options.
You’d predominantly be based on-site in our London office, with the option to work from home on occasion.
