Cardean Bell was founded just over a year ago to provide strategic M&A and corporate finance advisory services. It uses a different approach to most advisory firms by providing §M&A and corporate finance advice as well as an internal M&A executive consulting service. This differentiated approach allows Cardean Bell to offer personal, trusted, highly confidential service leveraging on the team’s “bulge-bracket” investment banking experience to deliver a very high quality product to its clients.
The prime focus is on advising entrepreneurs and founders selling their businesses as well as M&A transactions for private equity firms and for listed corporate clients. Industry segments covered include: media, financial services, retail & consumer, healthcare and real estate.
Project teams are assembled specifically for each assignment from carefully selected, highly experienced professionals. International and cross-border projects are a speciality but the business is currently principally UK focused. Cardean Bell is deliberately decentralised with the team working from clients’ offices and their homes.
Cardean Bell is currently advising on transactions worth over £260m.
About the team
Cardean Bell was founded by Peter Bell, a 25 year veteran of the investment banking industry. A highly experienced corporate finance professional, he as advised on over $100bn of completed transactions. As a board level strategic adviser he has international M&A experience across the UK, Europe, Asia, US and Africa and his previous experience was with Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Nomura/Lehman, Greenhill and Dresdner Kleinwort.
Peter’s main philanthropic activity is as the finance director of the Chalke Valley History Festival, the UK’s largest literary festival dedicated to history which attracts c20,000 visitors per annum and he chairs the charitable trust which owns the festival. He is also a strategic advisory board member of Hanson Wade, a life sciences conference organiser, and is married with four children.
The Cardean Bell team comprises two further experienced city professionals with investment banking and legal backgrounds and an administration officer.
About the role
We are looking to supplement our team with an experienced professional to work on a project-by-project basis with fully flexible hours.
The role will be to support the team by carrying out fundamental research on companies and potential new opportunities for the firm and its clients. In addition the new team member will undertake detailed financial and valuation analysis on projects, creating marketing materials for clients etc. Project managing transactions from inception, through marketing, terms negotiation and diligence will also be an important function. We seek to minimise pitching and rely on referrals, our track record and sheer force of personality to win business but there will be a small element of new business pitching work required.
As a start up, the whole team is fully involved in all aspects of the work, so your role will be very broad ranging from full senior client inter-action to fundamental analysis and detailed research. Our work is highly focused and we prize efficiency and value-add over the traditional long hours culture of the industry.
Most of the work will be home based but an ability to attend regular client meetings in London, across the UK (possibly internationally) will be important. While there are occasionally tight deadlines, almost all work can be carried at times that suit the individual.
Remuneration is time based with project success bonuses.
We are looking for an investment banker with between 5-12 years of experience in a major European or large US investment bank. What type of person do you need to be?
-You will be energetic, responsive and self-motivated
-You will be highly numerate with strong investment banking analytical and modelling skills: an excel ninja!
-You will have the maturity and confidence to work with senior c-suite executives at our clients and will demonstrate the leadership and communication skills to drive projects forward using your own initiative.
-You will need an empathetic manner and also a willingness to get stuck into all aspects of a transaction with the rest of the team, there is no room for egos in our small business.
-You will need to show resilience and a willingness to stick at a project to get it over the line.
-You will want to have fun and enjoy the work.
-The role is particularly suited to those who have other part-time commitments whether a job in a start-up or a charity or important childcare responsibilities. In particular, if you are starting a family or bringing up young children, working for us will be an ideal way to keep active in the world of investment banking while balancing the right amount of time committed to your family.
